Actually, my analogy was pretty much just to say this: assuming that
everyone will write off (or accept) one band because it doesn't (or
does) fit into your own tastes and genre-definition is a little loopy.
Just as I think it would be kind of silly to tell someone they wouldn't
like a specific version of a fairly standard and generally well-liked
food item because it isn't another fairly standard and generally
well-liked food item.

Because, bottom line, you ARE talking about generalities here. Show of
hands -- how many people here like rock and roll? How many people here
like power pop? Hmmm. Interesting.

Whether I agree or disagree with your opinion of FoW, I think the
dismissive attitude was a little condescending. Because you weren't
saying "Hey, I like this record and btw it's a rock record." You were
saying, "Hey, I like this record but if you happen to like FoW then you
obviously don't like rock and roll." Like I said, a little
condescending. I'm comfortable knowing I like both FoW and rock and
roll, and I don't see any conflict there. But more to the point,
semiotically, your original statement was hardly a valid argument.

And also loopy.

Just my opinion.

Flame shields up, semi-annual posting quota fulfilled, tongue firmly
removed from cheek.
