I'm generally of the opinion that an artist doesn't owe the audience
ANYTHING--not even a good performance. However, nor does the audience owe the artist
anything--including loyalty. Most artist-audience relationships will
naturally assume a middle ground between these extremes, but it's not an obligation.
That said, if I think an artist is an out-and-out prick, it's gonna
affect my perception of the work--context counts for something.
