...Which shows how short-sighted most reviewers are. I'm surprised they
didn't play the Jimmy Eat World card. A few years ago (if you believe what
you read) every band sounded like Green Day. Alkaline Trio actually sound
more like Smoking Popes/Morrissey given a Punk-Pop injection and an
(un)healthy dose of B-Movies.
Kelly's review is pretty spot-on...but they're not as gore-y as she makes
them sound. Maybe lyrically dark, but musically it's more pop than
say...Marilyn Manson or The Cure or Bauhaus or NIN or The Cramps or any
other band you might associate with the subject matter. My favorite by them
is "Maybe I'll Catch Fire"...but the new one is growing on me. Matt Skiba's
(the only one who moved to Cali...the rest of the band's still in Illinois)
split acoustic guitar CD with Kevin Seconds is also worth checking out.

(from "Aurora"): "You have to be the cutest gravedigger I've ever seen /
Fuck You Aurora you took my only friend / and though it's all my fault this

of a Chrysler ever again" ...I always wonder if he's singing about the city,
the car or a girl.

means I probably won't get to see them at small clubs anymore).
