Thats proably the best thing he did, (Gary Lewis also recorded a nice cover on
his "Hits Again" LP) An upbeat LP track called "She Chased Me" became a
cult-hit in the UK Northern Soul Scene. Its not the choice of material that
bugs me - just his nasally voice didnt convey much emotion. Gimmie Gene
Pitney,
Lou Christie, Del Shannon, Frankie Valli, Tommy Roe and Johnny Rivers over
him.
Ray Stevens did a lot of studio work in Nashville during the 60's, as a backup
musican and producer. He produced a great girl group 45 called "Dont Drop Out"
with Dolly Parton in 1966, and its not country sounding at all.

I cant stomach it either - that damn suprano "wordless vocalist" that starts
whoooing during the last verse makes me chringe. Also "Watchin' Scotty
Grow" is
another stomach tuner.
