My thought on this issue. Adapt!
I write the following in an extreme hurry so pardon any meandering or
incongruous thoughts, but here goes:
Things change in the marketplace that we may or may not like. I buy more
music now than ever and things have changed oh so much in the last 34 years
of my buying years. I enjoy reading the liner notes, but much, if not all,
of this is available online. The artwork is cool, but big whoop. I've grown
tired of digging throught the bins looking for that buried treasure, it's
gotten very old after all these years. I also like visiting my favorite
shops and shooting the breeze with the people (EVR!). However, my reason for
listening to music is to listen to music. I welcome the opportunity to
download all my music. The talk of quality is nonsense. There will be high
fidelity downloads available that are as good as CD and maybe even better.
Does anyone truly think that technology will continue to advance for
everything else but not for music in a downloadable format? Instant delivery
and a burned CD, mindidisc, and Ipod transfer within a very short time. And,
most likely (hopefully) for a lot less cash. And don't forget the massive
energy and raw material resource savings that will be realized. There's a
train approaching: jump on or move out of the way and let it pass. This may
seem like heresy to many of you but the flip side sounds a lot like
misplaced luddism. That's my take, so don't take this personally...
Mark
