Ah, the crazy guitar solo! So many to name, but the ones that first pop into my head follow:

Both of Robert Quine's mini-solos in Richard Hell and the Voidoids' "Blank Generation".

Phil Manzanera's solo in the middle of Roxy Music's "Amazona".

Manzanera's solo over typewriters in Eno's "China My China".

Then there's "that long lunar note" that kicks off Beefheart's "Big-eyed Beans from Venus".

Not that any of these are conventional songs to begin with. To echo Stewart, you've gotta give it up for some of the weird solos Steely Dan was able to throw in the middle of their AOR hits.
