in the opposite corner are the smashing pumpkins, who had to fight throughout their career to get people to ADD the "the" in front of their name. everyone wanted to call them just "smashing pumpkins." billy corgan was said to be emphatic in his demand that it be "the smashing pumpkins" whenever it appeared in print.
the the never had that problem, though i always thought "the" would be a better bandname than "the the."
my favorite alltime "the" bandname is "the mark bacino." mark himself doesn't realize this is his full proper name but, trust me, it is.
