I don't always take album covers as final word that a
band is picky about "the" or not, but in this case
it's true. On the Buzzcocks mailing list, Pete
Shelley has definitively said it's just Buzzcocks.
But I still say "the" when speaking sometimes. When
writing, I write around it: "I saw the Buzzcocks show"
rather than "I saw Buzzcocks," and stuff like that.

Try Talking Heads! I've seen people add an extra
"the" to the title of the album THE NAME OF THIS BAND
IS TALKING HEADS.
As for the Bangles, the new album says "The Bangles"
on it, and their Web site is www.thebangles.com.
Maybe they gave in.
