I bet if he was still alive and IF he made the list he'd be somewhere 
around 80-100 on the list. Just a hunch. Not knocking the Curt's 
playing as much as agreeing with you on the obvious high pedestal the 
departed can be placed upon. Also, "alternative rock" is less the 
fashionable. Thus, if this poll were taken during the pinnacle of 
Nirvana's fame, I'm guessing he would still have been high on the 
list. Just like, if the poll were taken 10 years ago Bob Mould would 
have been in the upper half of the list (where he "should" be).

If it were my list I'd move Tom Verlain up the list too. 
 
And if it were my world, Courtney Love would have unshaveable ZZ Top 
like facial hair while feeding stinky minnows to seals at a zoo in 
Brazil.
