I remember early on in his career, around the time between the debut and
Field Day, I think, there was an article about Crenshaw in a NY magazine
where he talked about how the Buddy Holly influence in his music was far
more in the guitar than in the vocal style. Ever since then I've heard
Crenshaw as an absolutely masterful guitarist, able to synergize,
synthesize, and evoke the glories of James Burton, Scotty Moore, Holly,
Cliff Gallup, etc. into a wistful sound that is all his own.
