Kevin said..i'd vote for Mould on both counts! Wishing Well is a cool
tune as well. What did you guys think of Sugar? - isn't "If I
Could Change Your Mind" one of the finest power pop songs
you've ever heard?
OK, this may be in part a function of time and what I was looking for
when these came out. Here is my reaction to Bob Mould's work.
Husker Du: loved much of it. Especially the two double albums
("warehouse" and ?....need more coffee). Whoever mentioned that he
should be on the list of top 100, I add a ditto. Live his playing
was simply jaw dropping. I've seen few bands be able to fill the
room with sound the way this three piece could. With Husker Du they
had a very punk feel with Grant Hart's added pop moments. Grant
Hart.... Alas, he could of, should of done much more then he has
(IMO).
Sugar: loved some songs, never loved it as a whole though.
Mould solo work. I didn't like it at all. I know many have indicated
how much they loved these. They always struck me as way to self
indulgently and self consciously bleak. In part maybe I was just
looking for something different, but I never heard the genius of
these records that many critics did. They sounds just kind of droned
on and on to my ears. I could barely listen to them. I wanted to
like them per having been a big Husker Du fan but I just didn't.
Somebody tell me they had this reaction? All I ever hear are shout's
of praise... : )
Best, Steve
