Thats a close to a definition (rephrased) as I could think of, "merging
local (American) music with the Beatles in a very sublime way". Badfinger
always struck me as the one that didn't belong because they were too close
to the source - and I think of Power Pop as American music. That's why
there are so many differences and still many similarities because it was so
regional back then - but people were working in a similiar direction but in
relative isolation, and when you hear all the bands (like the ones Michael
mentioned) - you can hear the same spirit in all of them, but they aren't a
bunch of clones.
"On The Wire" is awesome - "straight to hell" is a killer catch phrase -
wait and wait for it then go "YAAAA". I had it on a burn for a few years -
a friend is a fan, but I've never been able to enjoy listening to copies for
some reason. So I only -really- heard it when the new comp came out,
instant all-time favorite! I put it beside "Jimmy Still Comes Around" when
I played it on my show.
