eponymous debut album by Terry Melcher. Son of Doris Day, producer of The
Byrds and Paul Revere, half of Bruce & Terry, part of The Ripchords, friend
of Dennis Wilson and Charlie Manson. Prior owner of the home sold to Roman
Polanski just weeks prior to the Tate/LaBianca murders.
One of my very favorite albums of all time. Tortured, quirky, dark, and
deep. Ry Cooder & Clarence White provide great guitar work; Bruce
Johnston, Doris, & Spanky on bkgnd vocals, Joe Osbourne on bass, Hal Blaine
on drums.
A masterpiece. The ending track is a version of Willie & The Hand Jive
with solo voice and piano recorded at about half volume and played v-e-r-y
slowly...... Way out Willie and the gang on TV...............
I lived inside this record on a daily basis for over 6 months while trying
to gather the energy to kill myself way back in my late teens.
His second solo LP, Royal Flush, is almost as good and opens with an
incredible cover of Fire In A Rainstorm, the 45 version is a better mix and
edit than the LP version.
I think Tilt by Scott Walker is probably even more depressing. Do I hear
twenty-one, twenty-one...?
