for some reason I thought, for the US, that IRS/A&M had been using
"Paul Hyde & The Payolas"
prior to the Foster lp. I'll ask Paul next time I see him...
having been around in the US during that scandal - it was VERY
HEAVY..... everybody was freaking out everywhere...
the labels, especially, since their own promo depts had become so
weak once the indies supplanted them....
having worked with indie radio promoters - it blew my mind the huge
amounts of money floating around
at that time & the stuff that went on - make no mistake, there are
some GREAT indies out there and any hit record on the radio usually
has an indie behind it... the guys who were square and upfront have
only gotten stronger... and more powerful....
but that is a game out of our reach unless you have very very serious
money to play with
