On the DVD 'Brian Wilson On Tour' that came out earlier this year (and which
is absolutely excellent, BTW), there's footage taken backstage at the Bridge
School show in 1999, where various people are interviewed about Brian's
music. Some of them (like Sheryl Crow) obviously have very little idea even
who he is, but Neil Young and Pete Townshend are both utterly in awe of him.
Townshend's quote is printed on the DVD cover too - "I love Brian. I really
love him. You know, there aren't many people I would say that about. It's
terrible. I find it hard to live with". He's also shown on stage at the same
show, saying he was still in tears from Brian Wilson's set.
He seems absolutely sincere when he says this as well - it's one of the more
moving moments in the film...
