just came back from a whirlwind trip to San Francisco
to see Joe Mannix (on my BongoBeat label) perform Friday
at the Fillmore and then saturday night opening for Joe Cocker
at Mountain Winery in Saratoga Springs - wild concert venue
up in the mountain on the paul masson wine company winery.
Excellent intimate outdoor venue.... the first row of seats are literally
one foot away from the stage with NO SECURITY OR BARRIERS or anything.
Fantastic view of the outdoors and San Francisco lights in the distance...
they have a really varied line-up of classic rockers and new acts...
it's a FUNKY
ride up the mountain but worth it for the view.... spectacular....
Joe Mannix held his own on the opening slot and won some fans over (almost 20
cds sold at the merch table - pretty good!). Good job, Joe!
Joe Cocker was GREAT! I had no idea i'd like it as much as i did -
ultra pro show...
one hit after the other.... his voice is in fine form, surprising one
and all with
a dramatic high note here and there.... crazy stuff...
I also met up with Sacramento's cult guy Anton Barbeau as BongoBeat will be
releasing his King Of Missouri cd for North America. it's a fantastic team up
with The Bevis Frond and already getting rave reviews in the UK. The BongoBeat
version will have new artwork, liner notes & bonus track. Coming in November.
Very nice guy. He will be at IPO Liverpool - check him out!!!!
looking back, I spent an awful lot of time in the car.... SF to
Sacramento & back, then on
Sunday, SF to Monterey & back (our wedding photographer lives there so we got
to hang - wow!!! gotta go back there when we have more time)...
it was a cool little adventure and hopefully my wife and i can go back soon and
spend more time.....
