Joe:

Glad to hear you mention Ian Thomas -- an extremely
underappreciated songwriter and performer.  I'd put
his catalogue from the mid-70s to early-80s up against
just about anything I was listening to at the time. 
Sadly, I don't think any of it's available on CD,
except for an out of print "greatest hits" (right
Jaimie?).

Most people here might be familiar with his songs that
were covered by other artists during a period in the
early 80s when his catalogue was being heavily
shopped, such as "Hold On" (Santana), "The Runner"
(Manfred Mann), "Right Before Your Eyes" (America),
and "Chains" (Chicago).

I saw him perform live many times and he was an
engaging and warm performer and genuinely funny
person.

And I'd highly recommend his 2002 release with The
Boomers entitled "Midway".
