Everything goes from Point A to B in a straight line. Very little to grab
the ears. I need something to keep the interest level up and 78 minutes of
little variety (until near the end of the CD). Repeated listens will not
make it less dull. It is not all that intricate of an album. I listened to
it a second time, well almost, as I had to stop as it was monotonous. I
mean, how dull 12 minute songs can one take. These are not the same as the
epic length songs on Ragged Glory. Those were glorious guitar rock fests.
These are basically blah, blah, blah with a subdued Crazy Horse
performance(again, until the near the end). What I think happened is that
Neil had run out of fresh ideas and he finally came up with one. It was lost
in the execution. The album reminds of when the Catholic priest sings parts
of the mass that were meant to be read. It's sort of like singing what I
just wrote. The stories do not translate well to music. That's just my
opinion. I have not been this disappointed in an album in a long time.
However, my On the Beach should be in today's mail along with The
Prisoners-Fourfathers re-issue. Yes!
