So a magazine that no one on the list respects prints a list that no one
here seems to agree with...
Responses - some joking (expected); some analytical (expected); many
trash-talking (not expected).
As a group of near-obsessive list makers (at least, that's what it looks
like to me sometimes), I am shocked to see the trash-talking response be the
most prevalent. I note that there are those among us who seem to thrive on
list creation - when asked to list a top 10, some will list 20 or more - or
create sub-categories of the request in order to add more items to the list.
I actually find most of the lists presented on this list kind of boring,
though am intrigued by the responses about individual entries on occasion.
So Blender put out a silly list - get over it.
This actually gives me the opportunity to ask a list type question (yes, I
find them boring, but still am looking for an answer):
What is your Top 1 (ONE) Power-Pop album and Top 1 (ONE) Power-Pop song?
I'm looking for those albums and songs that you feel exemplify the genre.
Explain if you'd like - let it be your current favorite/lifetime favorite -
however you choose to define it. I ask this because with all of the great
music that is reported here, I get lost regularly - too much info. My guess
if that a short list of personal number ones culled from Audities would
allow for an interesting trip through the genre.
For the record, mine are:
Top Song: Cruel to be Kind - guitars, hooks, harmonies - who could ask for
anything more?
Top Album: Utopia - 3 sides (or 2 sides and a 7" EP) of 3 minute pop gems
I guess despite being raised on The Beatles, my tastes run toward late
70's/early 80's "New Wave" Power-Pop.
