Both the Grass Roots and Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds were signed to
ABC-Dunhill records. I think its a good chance that the Grass Roots heard the
demo first since they were established artists and passed on recording it.
It's
a great song and now im wondering in my head what it would have sounded like
had they recorded it.
Not so sure about "Rosemary" too - Grill might be bragging/exaggerating here,
but who knows??? In the early 70's the Grass Roots were a hot commodity for
songwriters and I bet they recieved a truckload of songwriter demos all the
time. Whoever picked the songs (the band or producer Steve Barri) did an
outstanding job picking them - from 68-73 thier batting average was
outstanding. It's a damn shame that most 60's 70's oldies fans ignore thier
original albums, many fine gems lurking in those grooves.
