The other day I was listening to Eric Voek's "Sand Box". Anyway, I've
owned it for a long time and like it a lot but I don't listen to it very
often. While playing it, it FINALLY hit me why I so seldom put it on. The
first song is called "My Dentist" and the disc starts out with the sound of
a dentist drill. Horror of horrors! It occurred to me how negative of an
impact that sound has on my subsequent enjoyment of the actual song. I
mean, I always knew the sound made me cringe when I listened to it but I
think it even had a bigger and unknown effect on my rarely even considering
playing the disc. As a kid, having a love of sweets and a Dentist that
didn't use Novocain surely adds to it's wallop on me. : )
Anyone else have negative reactions to "sound effects" that hurt their
enjoyment of an otherwise enjoyable song or disc....
Best, Steve
