Oh, there goes Gary droning on again about Belle & Sebastian, and he
doesn't even own a duffle coat, and he hasn't been seen sporting a bowlie
since at least sophomore year in college, and what exactly does he see in
those young Glaswegians anyway, with their undertrodden underground
undergraduate uberantihipsterness from half a world away, and even if he
does find some way to identify with them and their music and their french
horns and their vibraphones and four string players and the siren whistle
thingy and don't even get me started on that vibraslap, and them lugging
a dozen guitars across the ocean to play them on one song each, and
letting four people play keys at a time, and remembering the two
recorders because one wouldn't sound quite right for the 12 bars they
dueted, and even if they did dedicate a song to the Zombies, which was
their own Jonathan David, and even though they did play a dead-on version
of Love's arrangement of Little Red Book, why does he think anybody else
on the Audities list could give a flying fuck about the show they played
in Brooklyn tonight, although some Auditeers might be interested to hear
about Ben Kweller and how he came across so well to a bunch of people who
hadn't heard him or of him and with his 12-year-old looks and his Beckish
swagger and his Foldsian piano pounding and what with him playing loud
acoustic guitar and brilliantly covering Ice Ice Baby and impressing the
shit out of people who were more than twice his age and looked, through
their age and his youth, to be four times older than he, before the Scots
and their entourage hit the stage most appreciatively, playing songs all
the way from their first record all the way to the new one, even though
it's not being released until October, with lots of sunshiney pop sounds
and gorgeous harmonies that will maybe finally get the attention of more
people in general and more people on this list in particular, not that he
needs to have to fight through any more people to get to the front at
their shows, but that's just Gary droning on again about Belle &
Sebastian, and he's probably never going to get over that. So let's just
ignore him, ok?
