To me, if you want to get really specific, I can point to one song that
equals powerpop:

The Who "I Can't Explain" Live @ Leeds
Bombastic drums, big guitars, urgency, pop hooks, harmonies.

To me though, the broader definition is just "rock music with really catchy
pop hooks" or "pop songs being played with power" (duh). Let's leave that
open to interpretation.
I'd put the symphonic pop of Brian Wilson in another category if I could,
but I can't deny that I think "The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation
Society" is the ultimate powerpop record. If you don't consider it powerpop,
there's always a bridge down at the next turn where somebody combined "true"
powerpop with these influences and cited it as an influence for us all to go
dig up.

And then there's the move, to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude. Even if
you don't like them, frantically poppy songs like "Fire Brigade", "Omnibus",
"I can hear the grass grow" and (hehe) "Do Ya" inspired their peers and
following generations to crank their pop songs up to eleven.
