I'm just getting caught up on the weeks email but when it's about
Sparks I have to comment...

It may be that it was my first Sparks purchase but Indiscreet is my
favorite. It's definitely part of the "BIG 3" Sparks albums
(Propaganda, Kimono and Indiscreet) IMHO. If you're interested in that
crunchy Les Paul/Marshall big drum sound Indiscreet has it - in spots.
Listen to Hospitality on Parade (towards the end of the song), Happy
Hunting Ground (also on the Profile set) and The Lady Is Lingering.

The thing that's most interesting to me about Indiscreet is Tony
Visconti's production. He added a lot of sonic textures to the songs
but managed to keep that guitar/drum sound (when used) from Kimono and
Propaganda. I remember describing this album to a friend in the late
70's and saying that it was like an extreme version of Queen.

After Indiscreet the mix started changing. Big Beat still has a lot of
crunchy guitars (in fact I think the ads for this album mentioned "more
guitars") but the overall sound is somehow...I don't know...not as
glammy. More of a polished studio sound. The guitar is used in a
different way on this record. Kind of just chugging along on every song
rather playing cool parts through-out the songs. Still really good and
worth having though.
