I always enjoyed the Maniacs' early work -- the stuff that was collected on
"Hope Chest." My thinking was the the quality declined markedly after John
Lombardo left the band. It seemed like that early period stuff -- which was
a bit spikier -- was honed to a fine edge by the time of "Our Time In Eden."
I was always a fan of the late Robert Buck's guitarwork as well. I always
thought he made innovative use of open tunings, and played some fairly
creative guitar.
