Here are some highlights of some of the bands who played IPO this summer
Most of the bands I saw were good and this was my favorite IPO to date.
Wednesday July 23rd: The Derby
Beth Thornley--Good set/ very friendly person/ Excellent sounding cd!
Kristi Callan---Also good set/ friendly person/ and her new ep is really
pleasant pop
Wendy Colter--Delivered her best set yet. Her band had a good synergy
going on
Saucy Monky--Biggest surprise of the night/ This band is really good and
so is their cd.
They have two excellent female lead vocalists
and some catchy songs too.
Lisa Mychols---Delivered an excellent upbeat set and was full of positive
fun and happy energy!
Thumbs up! This was a great night!
Friday July 25th Fais Do DO (One of the best nights--Rainbow Quarts is a
great label!)
I Enjoyed all the Rainbow Quarts bands...these ones stood out above the
others
Myracle Brah--Sounding better than ever as a four piece, the guys rocked
harder and better
than I have ever heard them.
The Grip Weeds---Same story. They sounded the best I have ever heard them
and they rocked
harder than they have in times past.
RockFour-----This is the third time I have seen them and this was the
loosest set ever!
Once the guitarist broke a string it became a
wild frenzy. The lead
singer was running around in the audience having
alot of fun with the crowd.
Sat July 26th Fais Do Do
Rachel Gordon---Great set but a bit short. Heard she was having voice
trouble but it didnt show.
Pink Slip---Getting better each time I hear them. Their set was solid.
The Shambles---Delivered a great, energetic, no filler set! These guys
are veterans of the scene
and their professionalism shows it. Bart
Menoza is a great guy too. They had the best
sound that night.
The Holograms---Bizarre, scarey, and very memorable. Like a pop horror
movie in some ways.
Songs about subjects that would make your
Grandma vomit.
Sunday July 27th Eastgate Park
Barry Holdship---very nice solid , middle of the road, fun pop!
Roscoe Project---Sweet jangle to match a beautiful sunshine afternoon.
The Popdudes---Best sounding band of the afternoon. These guys played all
covers and nailed them beautifully.
Sunday July 28th Galaxy Theatre
The Dons---Delivered a fine sounding set . Interesting to see Don with
short hair.
Sideswipe----Girl rockers that really kicked butt! The best girl drummer
I have ever seen!
Sparklejets UK----Great set! Very uplifting vibe! This band is always
worth seeing!!!
The Waking Hours---Yeah!!! This was just what I was hoping it would be.
The energy of the Who
on stage. Complete enjoyment and
anarchy! Their new cd is a must!
Wednesday July 30th Spaceland
Kenny Howes---Did a great set. It was cool to see Mr Mike playing drums
for him. How much hidden
talent does this guy have? What doesnt he
play?
Marizane----Great set of glam rock. Weird clothes and the whole deal.
They sound like David Bowie
Ziggy Stardust era and their new cd is GREAT. Very
entertaining!
( Rumour has it David Bash just LOVES the
drummer!) She's hot!
Reciever--- This is the best I have heard them yet. Good songs, good
band. Ken West is a nice friendly
guy and Bun E. Borack keeps a rock solid back
beat!
Gigolo Aunts---Excellent. They played "Where I find my Heaven" which is
their signature song along
with alot of the newer more mellow stuff. Best
sounding band of the night .
London Calling--- Very good band. Did an excellent cover of Cheap Tricks
"Just got Back" and sounded
almost exactly like them. Lots of pure
energy and one of the better bands that night.
Thursday---July 31st The Joint , Jam Records Night
Glowfriends----Delivered a great set including a killer cover of the
Who's "I cant explain".
Walter Clevenger and the Dairy Kings---Like Terry Anderson's band. These
guys always deliver the goods
and are just plain fun!!! Great tunes to make Nick Lowe proud!
Phil Angotti and the Idea---Another fine set. Phil has an exceptional pop
voice and that alone is worth
the price of admission.
Always worth seeing.
Spinning Jennies---These guys pick up where the Shoes left off! They
rock live and are alot of fun to watch.
They did mainly songs from their new
cd which is outstanding!
Shplang----The nights biggest surprise!!!! I cant wait till their next
cd comes out. They are a great live band
and veterans of the L.A. circuit. The crowd was
really into it and they got an encore!!! Their
new songs are exceptional!
I'd love to list more but this is long enough! Cant wait till the next
IPO in Liverpool.
cheers,
jeremy
