Hi Kevin,
I think you're looking for this famous diminish chords that Jon Brion seemed 
to have learned to Rhett Miller (that's what Rhett explained in a video I 
saw).

You'll find the tab in this site: www.altcountrytab.com

Here the chord (it's the same played differently) - sorry I'm not a tab 
expert so I put the strings and the fret the fingers should be put on:
1)
D3
G4
B3
E4

2)
D6
G7
B6
E7

Hope you'll find how to do this diminished D chord.
