I would take France Gall over Francoise Hardy any day.  I'll grant that
Hardy has had a more consistent career (Gall's albums are notoriously
spotty, and frankly, as soon as her late husband Michel Berger took over
her songwriting and production, she became about 95% less interesting), but
the high points of France Gall's career are extremely high indeed. I would
put her best singles up against anything else that was around in the sixties.

Plus she looked like a cross between Brigitte Bardot and Annette Funicello.
