<<<Cheap Trick - "Special One" Not nearly as good as I had hoped it would
be. After a so-so start with "Scent of a Woman" things bog down to a
plodding pace *for the rest of the disc*. I kept hoping that Bun E. would
pick up the pace ala "Shades" from "That Thing You Do!" After hearing the
whole thing, I realized that "Scent of a Woman" was the best thing on the
disc. If the band was still releasing new material each year, I could shrug
this off as a misstep. Considering this is the culmination of a 5-year
span, I fear that we can stick a fork in the band, they're done.>>
I have listened to Special One twice, and while I would not go as far as Mike as stating "we can stick a fork in the band, they're done", I have to agree that the album, at least to my ears, is a bit of a disappointment. There are some highlights---"Too Much", "Scent Of A Woman", "Words" and "If I Could" are very good, and "My Obsession" is **absolutely incredible** and is a classic Cheap Trick song, ---but "Special One" and "Pop Drone", tracks 3 and 4, respectively, drag down the beginning of the album, and "Sorry Boy", "Best Friend" and the last 2 tracks, "Low Life in High Heels" and "Hummer" are completely forgettable.
My 2 cents,
Mark
