Let me begin this e-mail with saying that, since I only recieve the Audities
digest, I don't know if many of you read last night's post about IPO in the
Park. I wanted to stand by my words but just say that on-list I won't be
specific about who was good (apart from Barry Holdship, who my post was
primarily about anyway) and who sucked, but I will say that it was certainly
NOT the fault of the IPO organizers. It was just a weaker line-up than we
are used to out here in OC.
But I did talk to Senor Bash about the Liverpool IPO and all I can do is
tremble at the line-up! He'll be more forthcoming about it later when all
artists have been confirmed, but fans of power pop are going to be very
happy with what he has in store...
...and anyone NOT attending this year should go to www.notlame.com and order
the IPO 6 compilation. Three CDS of nothing but aural love. Buy other
stuff while you are there.
Remember that this pop community is (unfortunately) small and we must
support those bands that we love. If WE, the fans, don't support our small
scene, then who else will?
Don't borrow a disc and burn it: If you burn a CD, you burn the artist!
PS. Even as I speak of the pop scene on it's last legs, FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE
now have a video in MTV buzzbin rotation. This could go 2 ways: either it
will revitalize the shrinking pop scene and make it explode into this huge
pulsating phenomenom or every band next year at IPO will try to sound just
like Fountains of Wayne and they'll all be signed to a major label and
dropped within the year and the scene will be as POPular as the Macarena.
