...and Let us not forget the "bullfight cheers" (as no less an authority as
J. Page hisself called them) which were sloppily mixed atop the Yardbirds'
semi-legal Live at the Anderson Theater elpee.
Whackier still though was the vintage-'69 Johnny Cash "Showtime" budget
album, in which applause loops were slathered around old Sun recordings in a
quite-lame-indeed attempt to cash in (sorry) on the Feller in Black's then-hit San
Quentin and Folsom Prison releases (...which were NOT augmented in any way
whatsoever, btw, "Dirty Old Egg- Suckin' Dog" notwithstanding ;-)
I was unaware, however, that that Ventures' Live in Japan release was bo-gus
(the band DID tour there in '65; those shows WERE recorded) ...nevertheless,
can that particular release hold any candle at all to those Japanese Honeycombs
and especially Buck Owens live albums??!
also, Weren't those Johnny Rivers Whisky albums recorded live in the studio
with an invited audience (a la Adam Faith "Alive" and, later, "Beach Boys'
Party") ?
...which reminds me: Let's not even get started on those Brian Wilson "Live"
[sic!!] releases,
Gary "Frank Zappa: King of the Augmented Live Album" Pig
