Thanks for articulating that, Adam. I completely understand the frustration in your recent posts -- email lists are a lot like being on a conveyor belt... with a megaphone... and everyone's talking at once...

So, changes in the industry have made many musicians more determined than ever, that's good. However, I still see a crummy trend in the biz that isn't just about a sucky economy. You can ignore it, but you'd have to be ignoring it pretty hard not to see or feel the impact on some level. My career has been successful by many standards, but like Carl (thank you Carl, your post was amazing), the past few years have been an existential bummer. The love of playing has definitely kept me going, but we're not supposed to create into a void. There has to be value returned for the value given or there's no point to it.

Okay, so look -- if you think about it, the power that this international group of popsters and supporters could harness if it were really organized is pretty huge.

Grass roots regional pop festivals and shows could have even more impact if they were fully networked. Kevin's idea of a musician's list is wonderful and speaks to Bruce's plea for more support for DIY/Indie acts. David's idea of an organized consumer approach could be significant. My suggestion for a panel wasn't about listening to jaded industry geeks, the idea was to create an annual forum where musicians and supporters brainstorm about new ideas, what's working, what isn't. Maybe all this is happening by itself, but maybe it could be improved upon and give everyone more of what they do want.
