My dad didn't look like anyone in particular, but he shared his name with
the actor James Mason, and as a result, about every fifth or sixth time he
stayed in a hotel on business or vacation, some desk clerk would see his
name on the register and spread the word that a distinguished British
character actor was staying there. They were always disappointed by the
discount store manager from San Angelo, Texas.
