Well, what a fractious list this has become recently, with people banging
on about "making it" (or not).

I agree with Stephen's post (and posts from various others) - let's bang on
a bit more about great bands and great sounds (new and old).

Not that I mind the discussions about the state of the music industry, but
they have dominated the list of late. It is cool that musicians AND fans
use this list, and one of the reasons I love reading stuff here, but some
of the recent postings have been a bit po-faced and self indulgent. Like
Frank Bango said, most musicians out there make music because they love
making music: what they can never do is make other people love their
music! If this bothers them, then sadly, that is too bad. If doing what
you love to do does not make enough money for you to live off, then
readjust and do something else to supplement your income. That is the
reality for most people's lives.

I love a lot of the music discussed on this list, I also buy loads of CDs
(mainly from NotLame, because I like the way they do business and I like
supporting people who dig the same music as me) but I'm not going to
support a band or artist whose music I don't rate, just because they are a
struggling to make it.

As an aside, I am dipping my toe into gigging again (after a 20 year
hiatus), and will be playing Ross Bandstand in Princes St Gardens,
Edinburgh, Scotland at 7pm on 3rd August (all Auditeers welcome, although I
don't expect I'll see any of you there!). I've mentioned it to my friends
but if no-one comes, then no-one comes. I'm sure we'll have a good time
anyway.

So, by all means, talk about the industry, but lets talk POP too.
