Lest anyone think I'm despondent (I'm not), I submit my Top 5 list to show
that I still love music and it gives me joy, even as I face my own
foolishness. (I'm working toward being able not to care if there's anyone in
the room - because as so many say, that is strong and noble, and right. But
at this point, I am still weak and affected by my surroundings. I still
care. I know it is self-indulgent to admit that). >>>

Hey, I'm with you on that, I've been there - how can anyone not be at least
a little depressed when, after working hard to get to be on that stage,
theres is no one or close to no one out there to listen? it's very
frustrating. and it bummed me out when it's happened to me (back in the days
when i used to play out a bit.) i can't imagine being so hard as to not
care if there is no one in the room. this is probably the reason why, many
years ago at the impressionable age of 23, I i went from a musically
satisfying originals band playing to anywhere from 2 to 50 people (mostly
about 10-20 people per show) and making anywhere from $5 to 20 bucks per
bandmember per night, to playing in a not so musically satisfying top
40/classic rock band to crowded barrooms full of happy dancing people,
making lots more money and meeting girls. it was fun for a while, but after
a while, i regretted it and missed my original band days.
