funny thing that as a fan..I love reviews that tell me what bands they sort of sound like..it gives me a reference point..that is why I love Big Takeover so much..

If a reviewer says..it sounds like the doughboys..then I know if is probably going to be excellent...if he says it sounds like later wilco..I know it is going to suck!..so give me more references, if available

Many critics..not all..are just too self absorbed with their own knowledge about music. so they often want to impress the reader with references that only a few would even remotely recognize...it is usually a sign of insecurity..funny thing..it is usually a sign of insecurity of their own intelligence or knowledge....when I come across music critics like that..i simply leave them alone..just like bad novelists..i leave them alone...young academics tend to show this trait as well..in a different forum..

remember that horrid show on tv with the music critics in a round table?..i think many of them were from RS..i watched with horror once..never went back..is it still on?..has it gotten any better?..I thought it was funny when one of the critics (a woman) on the show was describing what her fave cd of the week or month was and she said it was a compilation of drumming tracks from Senegal...what??..the rest of the panel just smirked as in saying to her "gee, you must be cool"
