~~~~man. i've got to say that these sorts of comments
re: rap realllly get under my skin. and it's not
because i'm a big fan of ludacris and jay-z. hell, i
fall under the 'make generalization about rap here'
category (it's all about booty and getting laid, it's
all gangsta, it's all too violent, it's all graphic
sex, it's all played way way too loud...) -- HOWEVER,
i refuse to blame rap for the 'dumbing-down' of music.
especially when right before that, you reference
'pre-programmed rhythm tracks and pitch correction.'
when we have a plethora of 'reality' tv shows abound.
when the likelihood that the people buying the 'bad,
boring rap' is the same audience that carl or adam or
you are looking to entice to your shows is next to
nil?
while i don't listen to rap (due to aesthetic *and*
political reasons, probably the aesthetic largely
winning out, i must admit), the seemingly flippant way
people (read: white) tend to bash rap bothers me,
because it does seem to be a music of a particular
group of people (read: black, young). i'd hope we're
not dismissing something (myself TOTALLY included)
based on a lack of openmindedness....
pet peeving on a wednesday,
jocelyn
