Actually, the "Constipated Muppet" vocal style dates back to bands like
Celtic Frost in the first half of the eighties. An evolution of the "death grunt",
of course. I'm referring to the "Constipated Animal" or "Constipated Grover"
style, not the also popular "Constipated Elmo" style, which came more from
other thrash bands.
Regarding the Darkness, just imagine one of the more commercial sounding
NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) bands, but with a lot of ridiculous
falsetto vocals. Sort of like Fist or Praying Mantis with a metal Gary Wright
singing, but with more vocal histrionics, of course. Great fun if you care for
that stuff, but I realize it's an acquired taste.
