5 stars in the new ed. of Uncut magazine, 5 stars also
from last week's Guardian (UK) newspaper
http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/reviews/story/0,11712,990720,00.html.
'9/10..The best debut album in the last ten years,'
said the NME. The folks over at UK indie retailer
Norman Records, er, disagree: 'If anyone's seen the
film Ghost World then the word 'Blueshammer' sums this
album up rather accurately. Incredibly, incredibly bad
beyond belief..0/10'!
I've had Y&YM for a few days and have yet to get
beyond track 4, not because I can't stick it any
longer but because I keep returning to the start for
fear they might start putting a foot wrong. It's
nothing startlingly new, just a very crisp
distillation of The Strokes/Allman Bros/Jonathan
Richman/Iggy Pop.
The KoL's debut goes head-to-head with that of the our
v. own The Darkness for this week's UK album no.1 slot
(over at AmazonUK it's currently 1.KoL. 2.TD..). Have
only heard a couple of Darkness tracks but rest
assured if straight up kitschy arena rawk a la
Kiss/Queen/ACDC does it for you then you can bag
'Permission to land' with complete confidence...
