I last month I had a Western Digital 100 gig hard drive start acting up
after 2
years of being my main drive. It'd make a loud clicking noise (the click of
death) and hang the whole PC up. I was very lucky to copy all my important
files off of it onto another hard drive before it quit for good. It would get
very hot so I took it out of the case, and ran a small table fan on it while
copying to keep it cool. I have heard of some people putting a dead hard drive
in the fridge(!) for a hour till it gets ice cold to get it to work.

I checked Western Digital's site for warrenty info and the drive had one year
left... sooo I sent it back to thier RMA service dept and about 2 weeks later
was sent a remanufactured drive. I preferred a new drive but its been working
fine as my storage drive for Mp3's videos, pics and various games. My father
had an IBM hard drive die on him last year and we lost a lot of our important
business and tax files (they only exist as paper copies now). I cant stress
this enough--its a pain in the ass to do it all the time but always back your
important (and favorite) files up on CD-R's or floppies.
