Nirvana may have begat grunge rock but it also begat the signing binge of
melodic rock and rock-flavored "power pop" acts in the mid '90s both on majors
and large indies. A lot of the reason the mid '90s were a good time to be in an
indie rock band was the Nirvana aftermath and its effect on the industry.

p.s. Ricky says the Sex Pistols are a pop band.
