Jocelyn -- you absolutely are *not* an idiot. I've always felt that
Auditeers are some of the most discerning and supportive music
listeners around. You, in particular, are one of the bright lights
on the list and I always enjoy reading your posts. You did say in
your email that you don't know much about the biz and are looking at
it as an "outsider." You asked good questions and suggesting you
read up on things is really the best answer I can give because your
questions require more information than can be gleaned through email
chats. Granted, it's never been the fan's concern to learn about the
music biz, but I guess I've just had enough of well-meaning folks
promoting that "Major Label = Bad/DIY = Good" sweeping
generalization, which isn't remotely the whole picture.

Lol! Well, it's true that I tend to trumpet the "artist's
perspective" because it's personal to me, and so I take it
personally. There aren't that many artists represented here and that
perspective is often lacking or gets lost in the conversation, which
tends to continue stereotypes or misinformation. It gets damn
frustrating sometimes, hence my flacky attitude. I agree that a
diplomatic approach would have been a better choice in my
communications of late, so Jocelyn, Kevin, Auditeers, I apologize for
my uber-bitchy tone.

Love,
Aunt Wendie
