The first USA copy-protected CD was the soundtrack to "The Fast & The
Furious -
Part 2" or something close to that. Didnt see any stories on the web about
people compaining about it, proably not enough copies were sold to make an
impact. The last Capitol/EMI product I bought was "OK Go"'s S/T album and it
copied fine.

I think major labels are fearing a huge backlash from major retail chains
(because they will get stuck with thousands of returned CD's that "wont play")
and fans.

Like computer software there will never be a perfect CD copy protection
scheme.
There will always be some "kid" in his basement trying to crack it. The only
thing the record companies can do is give up on the CD in the future and start
looking for some kind of media that can be better encrypted.
