except to give this one opinion about how none of us
know what it's like to be a starving artiste. but
isn't it true that many of the people on this list ARE
in fact, starving artists, label owners, and trying to
"make it" and also AT THE SAME TIME want to 1. do what
they want with their music <which at its core, is
really just a symptom of how bloated and greedy the
whole 'major label' (see: monopoly?) system has
become> and 2. think the majors suck as much as the
rest of us 'non-musicians.'

also...take the money and run? from the information
i've been given recently, that can mean that your
music gets in essence 'stolen' and held hostage if the
label decides to not release it, but not let you out
of your contract, holding you in music
purgatory...which doesn't seem like any sort of
'bankrolled shot' at much of anything to me. and then
there's the whole new angle of having to promote and
payola and make videos and such so that your
record/single even stands a chance, and then when it
sells enough to make YOU happy/decently well off, but
not enough to even -dream- of covering all those tour
buses, video shoots, and oil to grease the wheels, so
to speak, well, then you owe the LABEL money. wow.
sounds like a deal to me.

now, i know i don't know the industry. really. i'm
just an outside observer with music friends. but, it
just seems to me that some of us music fans have every
right to have complaints, cause without us, people are
going to still make music (it's in the blood), but as
far as making it a full-time job? well, that's where
you need people like me.
