Surf music -- surf instrumentals?

I don't know much about it either, except The Mermen (psychedelic surf
from SF), the dozens of Gary Usher productions under numerous names
(w/ & w/o vocals) and the king of surf guitar himself Dick Dale. Oh,
and Jack Nitzsche's song "The Lonely Surfer".

Phil Dirt, who has been the #1 surf music DJ in Northern California
for 15 years now, has his playlists archived here (95 - present):

Some compilation titles I know that are good:

Legends Of Guitar: Surf - Vol 1 (oop Rhino title - 1 of the best comps)
Rock Instrumental Classics - Vol 5
Beyond the Beach (newer stuff circa 90's)

Hope this helps,

 - michael

NP: Darius - Darius [1969] - pop psych in a folk vein
