Well, I became an honorary Manitoban for one night
since it was a private show promoting all things
Manitoban (including Crown Royal AND most buses
currently operating in North America today!) I tells
ya, I learned more about Manitoba in one night than I
learned in all my college years. The Guess Who and
B.T.O. AND the Crash Test Dummies...my god. And DAMN,
can those Manitobans party!!!

So anyway, the Waking Eyes. What can I say!? They
were lovely. Yes, they were a little on the raw
"garagey" side, but also heavy on the harmonies and
there was some killer KORG keyboard action as well.
The bass player wore one of those unfortunate
"trucker" caps, about 8 months past it's expiration
date, but they have been on the road, so that can be
forgiven.

I see NO connection between their recorded output and
their live show. Last year at IPO, they wore suits
and played a tighter set with more of the melodic
songs from "Combing The Clouds." but in either
incarnation, they are something special. I can't
really describe it. And that's a bad thing on this
list! I'm under the impression they have big things
ahead in Canada, can't speak of it now, but heads of
their current label, Endearing, filled me in. More
power to them. I just wish they could tour down here
more often.

Anna
