... prior to last nights show here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. NOW I
understand what the fuss is all about. That was one FUN set. Whatever
planet he's from, I want to go there for at least a short vacation. I
sat with fans who'd seen Jonathan many times, so it was nice getting a
bit of history and perspective from those folks. That man can dance (!),
sing, play, write and just overall entertain with the best of 'em. Big
fun from this end! Thanks to Jonathan and whatever world brought him to
these foreign shores!

I promise y'all, I wouldn't say it if it weren't true (I just wouldn't
mention it at all), but Cliff Hillis played a fine opening set for
Jonathan Richman. He was way up for the set and definitely "pop-rocked"
the house. Thanks (also) to Groupie Gal Beth, who generously offered
"half" her chair, when I couldn't find an empty one in the entire
building (see below).

Alas, though, I was unable to fulfill my "true" mission: getting a
printed version of Michael Kropps great (June 25) Audities post about
his daughter and her near-infatuation (for an 8 year old, anyway!) with
JR, into the hands of the man himself. I knew he'd enjoy it, but I never
got the chance to show it to him. I had it "in-pocket" and was able to
share it with some fans, but Cliff told me that both Man and Drummer
skee-daddled on a bee-line out to the parking lot and took off
immediately, right after they were done playing. You could hardly blame
them, the venue was SRO and downtown Rehoboth Beach was PACKED last
night (it was "one out - one in" at the door). Tourists, or "guests", as
we're supposed to refer to them, were "everywhere". Heck, we live here
and we immediately sought shelter, post-show, in a much-less-crowded bar
(that we keep in a secret location, kinda like the Batcave) when we need
more elbow room. In fact, it's the very same "secret location" where
Kenny Howes and Robby Rist played when they came to town this past
winter.

There was indeed much Dancing In the Lesbian Bars last night. But, of
course, there's almost ALWAYS dancing in the lesbian bars here in
Rehoboth. ;-)

Peace!

Jeff T.
