I remember hearing "Heartbeat" for the first time on my parents car radio
while
going shopping in Santa Barbera. I think I bought the 45 a couple days later.
Compared to most bubblegum records it had a very dense and expensive sounding
production, a great dramatic opening (with some nice phasing effects) and a
killer hook. Very danceable too - you might call it the first disco/bubblegum
crossover. I also remember the B-side called "Sweet Sweet Loretta" which got a
lot of spins during recess. Our elementary school had a portable PA system
with
a built-in turntable and two large speakers, and kids would bring thier
records
and blast them all over the playground.

Tony pics were all over Tiger Beat magazine. I never bought them (only car
magazines, Popular Science and comics), but the girls would bring them into
the
classroom and I'd always sneak a peek and see what was going on with David,
Donnie, Bobby etc.

The song is on Rhino's "Have a Nice Day" - Volume 10 CD.

because I hear it's potential in my head as a revved up cover, maybe by a band
like the Queers or someone of that ilk. The chorus is catchy as hell.
