Year end Rolling Stone mag w/articles on 'Mats and Husker Du as bands to
watch - got me into my first real record store (/head shop of course) and
met my first real record store owner.

Another thought, I think the fact that cds came out right around this time
set me back a bit, I was young and dumb and an early adopter and was
spending $29 for any crap that had ddd on it. I remember everyone I knew
who had a cd player had Dire Straits 'Brothers In Arms' - they would use it
to demo in the stereo stores and it was almost a 'pack-in' for the first
year. I wanted 'Beggar's Banquet' to be my first cd so I bought it few
months before I got the player (for xmas w/'Brothers In Arms').

Not to mention the 200 cassettes because the only stereo I had as a teenager
was in my car.
