It's been covered in exactly that manner by at least one band of
which I'm aware, Chicago goof-punks the Vindictives. I saw them do a snotty
and amphetamined version of "Heartbeat (It's a Lovebeat)", and I noticed on
AMG that they also included it on their covers album, *Party Time For
Assholes*. Their live version wasn't as good as it would've been done by the
unchallenged masters in the field of speeded-up punk covers, the Dickies,
but it was still pretty entertaining.

I had a friend in college who insisted that the beep-beep-beep
middle eight of "Heartbeat (It's a Lovebeat)" was lifted wholesale from the
opening theme to the TV show *Emergency*. He figured that it was stuck in
there because the DeFranco girls had a jones for Randolph Mantooth.
